Let’s talk about the method of water leakage test in stainless steel tube heat exchanger

Stainless steel tube heat exchanger is a heat exchanger widely used in chemical production. It is mainly composed of shell, tube plate, heat exchange tube, head, baffle, etc. The materials required for the tube and tube heat exchanger can be made of ordinary carbon steel, stainless steel, copper tubes, aluminum tubes, and steel-aluminum composite tubes. When the heat exchanger is exchanging heat, one fluid enters from the connecting tube of the head, flows in the tube, and flows out from the outlet pipe at the other end of the head, which is called the tube side; the other fluid enters from the nozzle of the shell and flows out from the other nozzle on the shell. This is called the shell-side tube and tube heat exchanger.

After checking for leaks, make a mark, release the pressure and drain water, and then plug the leak. If the heat exchanger is large and the leakage is serious, leakage will occur when the water pressure is low, and the leakage must be drained and plugged. After the leakage is plugged, fill it with water and pressurize it to test for leaks. Repeat this process, which will increase the maintenance time of the heat exchanger.
Since water filling and pressure take a lot of time, when the leaking part needs to be repaired, the leaking part must be dried, otherwise the quality of the repairing welding and leaking will be affected. If there is flammable medium in the leaking stainless steel tube heat exchanger, nitrogen replacement must be carried out. Only after it is qualified can the fire repair and leak elimination work be carried out. Otherwise, fire and explosion will occur, endangering the safety of people and equipment.
